Got a lovely email from a reader named Gabe yesterday with a cool story-starter for our homework from this post! To summarize/paraphrase:

One way that a regime can change is similar to the early days of ancient Rome - the working class goes on strike. Tensions escalate during negotiations, while the general populace begins to slowly starve or find alternate means of fulfilling basic needs. This forces the regime in power to either validate the working class or pursue a never-ending game of 'chicken' (which no one wins, of course).

Also - (my add) should no one be willing to compromise, this opens the door for another faction to take power, or even stage a coup!

Gabe, I think this is a great spark of inspiration! Immediately, my brain went: what part of 'industry' in a large city would strike first? What would the domino effect be; would other groups follow suit? How would normal citizens adapt and get what they need? Would they just leave? Where is the line drawn for bringing in military/state-funded assistance?

Hopefully this gets your brain going, too! Thank you Gabe for being the very first to turn in their homework ;)

Thank you all for reading, and if you can think of a better story - go write it! :)
